Into the Clouds was painted on a private ranch road located mauka of Po'okela Church above the town of Makawao. Located below the outdoor polo grounds, (indoor has a fence around it) there are typically cows or horses grazing the area. The backdrop of majestic Haleakala towering in the east becomes almost like water to fish, hardly noticed, as the residents go about their busy days.
This painting captures a day in 1989 in the life of artist Curtis Wilson Cost, who's appreciation of such things compelled him to do so.
